RTM and HP-RTM both use a closed mold and introduce resin into a fiber preform, but the tooling requirements must be defined around the material system, injection equipment, pressure, cycle target, and production method. The process name alone is not enough for a reliable quotation. Start with the Fiber Preform Provide the fiber type, architecture, thickness, local reinforcement, binder or preforming method, inserts, cores, and loading method. Include preforming, cooling, bonding, or checking fixtures in the project scope when required. Define the Resin and Injection System The resin system influences viscosity, temperature, working time, cure, and flow. For HP-RTM, filling speed, pressure, sealing, mold stiffness, and clamping require particular attention. Confirm Inlet, Vent, and Vacuum Strategy Resin must reach the required areas while air exits through controlled paths. Inlet and vent positions should be evaluated against geometry, preform permeability, thickness changes, inserts, and the expected flow front. Review the Seal Line and Mold Closing Define seal location, replaceability, cleaning access, closing method, cavity pressure, mold stiffness, alignment, and connection layout. Heating, Cooling, and Temperature Control Temperature influences resin flow, cure, cycle, and dimensions. The temperature-control layout should match the resin, mold construction, part geometry, and production target. Demolding and Post-Molding Operations Review draft, undercuts, release surfaces, lifting, trimming, bonding, drilling, cooling, and checking. A good molded part can still be damaged or distorted by uncontrolled handling.
